WCES Engineering Service Award

Each year Wichita Council of Engineering Societies presents The Engineering Service Award. The recipient is selected from the WCES member societies on the basis of their contribution to the advancement of the Engineering Profession. We are accepting nominations for the 2009 honoree. Attached are a list of past Award winners, a description of the selection criteria, and nomination forms in both PDF and Word. Award Criteria

THIS AWARD IS PRESENTED ANNUALLY BY THE WICHITA COUNCIL OF ENGINEERING SOCIETIES TO AN INDIVIDUAL WHO BEST EXEMPLIFIES THE ENGINEERING PROFESSION THROUGH VOLUNTEER SERVICE, AS JUDGED BY THE COUNCIL FROM NOMINATIONS BY THE PARTICIPATING SOCIETIES.
  • Nominee must be a member in good standing (dues paid) of the nominating engineering society affiliated with WCES.
  • Nominee must have contributed time and effort utilizing engineering abilities in one or more of the following areas:
    • PUBLIC SERVICE - application of professional abilities, i.e., tutoring, Math Counts, Science Olympiad, science fairs, scouting, public boards, etc.
    • PUBLIC AWARENESS - acceptance/promotion of profession, i.e., speaker bureau, career guidance, etc.
    • PROFESSIONALISM - advancement of the profession, i.e., helping with engineering exams, career planning/enhancement/counselling, teaching technical continuing education courses, engineering legislative concerns (pensions, patents...), engineering advancement committees, engineering organization offices (local or national), etc.
    • OTHER - specify
  • Nominee's volunteering efforts must be:
    • current, as opposed to several years ago
    • an investment of substantial personal (uncompensated) time
    • personal and direct, as opposed to financial support
    • public service, as opposed to in conjunction with services for family members
  • Exempt from nomination:
    • current WCES representatives and/or alternatives
    • current chair or president of WCES affiliated society
  • Nominees should be informed of his/her nomination or may nominate themselves.
  • Selection committee from the WCES affiliated society representatives will present the award candidate to the WCES Council for final approval.
  • Award will be presented at the WCES Engineering Week Banquet, held on February 19, 2009.
